Why choose this field of study?

English + an oriental language = a global career advantage.

If you want to achieve advanced proficiency in English and, at the same time, learn an oriental language, choose English Philology with an Oriental Language. This programme combines practical language training with intercultural knowledge, preparing you for work in international and multicultural environments.

Students can choose one of three oriental languages: Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. The launch of a particular language pathway depends on the number of applicants choosing that language.

Why choose this degree?
English remains the leading language of international communication, business, education, media, and technology. At the same time, Asian countries play an increasingly important role in the global economy, culture, and innovation. Combining English with an oriental language creates a unique linguistic profile that opens doors to diverse international career opportunities.

English Philology with an Additional Oriental Language – what will you gain?

  • Parallel instruction in your chosen oriental language (Chinese, Japanese, or Korean) from beginner level
  • Advanced English language skills and practical communication competencies
  • Knowledge of culture, society, and intercultural communication in Asian and English-speaking contexts
  • Modern language learning methods – project-based, digital, and practice-oriented
  • Professional internships and opportunities to develop your own projects
  • A multilingual and international learning environment
  • Direct access to experienced academic staff and individual support
  • Proficiency in three foreign languages (English, a selected oriental language, and an additional language chosen from the university language course offering)

What Can You Do After Graduation?

Graduates of this degree can work as:

  • translators and language specialists in companies, institutions, and international organisations,
  • teachers of English or the selected oriental language,
  • employees of multinational corporations, export companies, tourism agencies, cultural institutions, publishing houses, or NGOs,
  • coordinators of international, intercultural, and educational projects,
  • specialists in communication, customer relations, and international cooperation.

This programme is for You if:

  • you want to combine English language studies with oriental language and cultural studies,
  • you are interested in Asian cultures and global communication,
  • you are planning a career in business, education, tourism, translation, media, or international cooperation,
  • you want to develop practical language skills that are highly valued in today’s globalised job market,
  • you are looking for a modern degree that combines language proficiency with intercultural competence.

New requirements for visa applications

Note: important information for bachelor’s degree candidates (first-cycle studies)

In line with the new requirements for visa applications introduced by Polish consulates around the world, candidates applying for a student visa are now required to submit a document confirming their eligibility to apply for a bachelor’s degree (first-cycle studies), issued by the Polish Education Superintendent Office (in Polish – Kuratorium Oświaty). Previously, this document could be provided after arrival in Poland, but under the new regulations, it must be submitted along with the visa application. The procedure for master’s degree candidates remains unchanged.

While the new requirement may slightly extend the visa process, the UAFM is fully prepared to support bachelor’s degree candidates throughout this period. To ensure there are no disruptions to their education, candidates who cannot arrive in Poland before the start of classes will be able to participate in lectures online via MS Teams.
